Description:
The Communications Specialist for the LSU Manship School of Mass Communication develops and manages multimedia content, including videos, graphics, and photos, to promote the School’s community. This role collaborates with the communication and outreach team to ensure consistent, high-quality digital materials. As the Social Media Strategist, the coordinator plans, schedules, and engages with content to grow the School’s online presence, utilizing analytics to optimize performance. Additionally, the coordinator oversees website content management, ensuring updates, SEO optimization, and usability improvements. Special projects are assigned by the Assistant Dean of Strategy.
Responsibilities:
- Content Creator: Emphasis on video, graphic design and photo production. Generate video ideas and coordinate and produce video material, as well as graphics, brochures, digital media materials, advertisements, other visuals and photos, to share on the website and social media channels that feature the School’s faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors and facilities; Work in conjunction with the School’s communication, engagement and outreach team on editorial, design and budgetary responsibility for all projects. Works Collaboratively with the Office of Communication and University Relations and adheres to the standards set therein. 40% - Social Media Strategist: Responsible for all inquiries received by the School via social media channels. Assists in creation and execution of the School’s social media strategy through content planning and scheduling; utilizing all digital platforms to grow the School’s online presence, use digital communications platforms to effectively promote the School and its students, faculty, staff and alumni; grow following and engagement on all platforms through both organic and paid marketing approaches; testing out new strategies and platforms; and use social media analytics to assess social media engagement strategies and generate reports for the School’s communication, engagement and outreach team. 35% - Website Content: Procure, maintain, and update content on the School’s websites; assist with creation and implementation of updates to improve the usability, performance and appearance of the websites; assist administration and staff with website development and manage issues as they arise; maintain website content; and incorporate search engine optimization and analytics. 20% - Other: Perform other duties/special projects as assigned by Assistant Dean of Strategy. 5%Requirements:
Operation Essential Personnel – This position may be asked to work during an official closure, but who is otherwise not required to report to the physical campus during a closure and whose absence does not present a risk to the safety, resources, and well-being of the campus per FASOP HR-01. Due to the Nature of the position and/or responsibilities, in times of emergencies and/or University closures, this position is considered essential. It may be required to assist the Office of Communications and University Relations on Necessary Communications Matters in times of crisis, including potentially working in LSU’s Emergency Operations Center during those times. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication or related field Specific Experience: Experience in video production and editing.
