Position Overview
This position will span all areas of KSL Sports, including but not limited to research, writing, producing, photographing, editing and reporting sports feature stories for KSL TV sports segments. The ideal candidate will produce and report engaging stories, conduct in-depth interviews with experts and story subjects, videotape, write and edit creative content for broadcast, digital, and social media platforms. The candidate should display strong professional and informative on-camera communication skills. The candidate will also be expected to be capable of delivering live reports for KSL sportscasts both on set as an anchor and in the field as a reporter.

 

This position will also report on breaking news stories for KSL Sports social media channels and digital platforms. This requires the ability to quickly retain information and disseminate it using strong professional and informative on-camera communication skills. It also requires an in-depth knowledge of, and proficiency using, popular social media channels. A proficiency in writing in AP style for a sports website is also required.

Note: Work configurations are subject to change based on business needs and at company discretion.
This position is an onsite role that requires the employee to regularly work at our Salt Lake City site.
What You Will Do:
Primary job duties will include, but are not limited to:
Research, script, shoot, edit, and submit sports feature stories.
Demonstrate advanced videography skills that make stories visually appealing to a wide audience.
Write copy, teases and headlines that are accurate and interesting to entice the viewer to watch.
Shoot video of local sports events (games, news events, etc.)
Anchor sportscasts as needed and perform dynamic live reports in the field
Provide on camera breaking news reports on KSL Sports social media platforms
Write and post regularly on all digital platforms including social media.
Conduct necessary live and taped interviews
Write and produce sportscasts for yourself and others
Meet all deadlines on-air and online
Ensure a balanced and ethical presentation of news and information
Work with News, Production, Promotions, and Engineering on daily broadcasts, special reports/features
Participate in community and station-driven events
Work effectively in a team environment and collaborate to create compelling content.
Consistently meet deadlines as defined by Sports Director and executive producers.
Set an example of professionalism, collaboration and leadership.
Maintain a positive and cooperative rapport with staff, management and clients.
Work in compliance with Company policies and procedures.
Project an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor.

Skills and Experience We Are Looking For:
College degree in journalism, communications, related field, or equivalent preferred
3-5 years of experience with television or social media on-camera work
Proficiency in popular social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc.)
Proficiency with ENPS and Adobe Creative Suite
An understanding and appreciation for journalism ethics and writing, audience and marketplace
A proven track record of communicating and collaborating with external customers, business leaders and others involved with community issues
Deep understanding of social media techniques and tools and the ability to research and implement new practice.
Superior written and oral communications skills are essential along with the ability to juggle multiple tasks on deadline
Work on some holidays and weekends required

Physical Demands
Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.
Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to operate computer keys and general office equipment. Ability to work on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
Lift, move, and carry up to 20 pounds on occasion.

Compensation
$55,000 – $75,000. Salary to be determined by multiple factors including but not limited to evaluation of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant along with internal equity and alignment with market data.
