WAFF is looking for a dynamic engaging anchor for our highly rated evening newscasts You must be a working journalist who is involved in digital platforms as well as television.


General Responsibilities -
Strategic Needs:

• Must be a team leader with a great attitude, possess a strong sense of ethics and integrity, and bring professionalism, personality, energy, confidence, and team spirit to our newscasts and our multi-platform newsroom.
• Must be a strong writer, deeply knowledgeable about all current events, and have quick and thoughtful news judgment.
• Must be capable of creating content from sources beyond wires and feed (ex. Social Media, Court Records, reliable online publications) and be eager to present the day’s news in an urgent and impactful manner on all platforms.
• The position requires an energetic personality who can connect with a large and engaged TV and online audience, and be able to recruit viewers and users to an already-strong news operation.
• Anchors must develop, maintain, and share sources.
• In the newsroom, the position requires a dedicated journalist who loves to pitch and do great stories, as well as someone highly skilled at handling non-scripted reports on set and detailed information when reporting live on location news events. In the studio, candidate must be able to organize and deliver breaking news information for easiest consumption by the audience, bringing order to the chaos of breaking news reporting, producing the market’s best overall coverage on a consistent basis.
• Must consistently generate and execute important and engaging story content in a contemporary and aggressive manner. Must have excellent writing skills and be someone who knows the value of the present and future tenses, as well as writing in the active voice, using visual language, and consistently making audio/video connection.
• Must assist newscast producers and the digital team in the production and writing of news stories, consistent with station format and style.
• Must be proficient in the use of social media to communicate news and promotional messages, demonstrating strong multi-platforms skills on our News App, Website, and social media platforms. Must manage station social media accounts including responding and reviewing messages and comments. Must know how to determine difference between legitimate news sources and fake media. • Must enjoy engaging with community members through speaking engagements and special events.
• This is a job for someone comfortable in the public eye, comporting themselves with politeness and friendliness, as well as sincere interest in helping people in the community understand current events.
• This position needs someone who understands the audience research conducted from time to time and responds to what that research indicates the audience needs and desires.
• Anchors must serve as mentors for reporters, weekend anchors, and incoming producers.
• Candidate will become proficient in ENPS, LUCI, Oasis/Bitcentral, VOD, Live U App, Videolicious, Crowdtangle, Outlook, Police Scanners, Tagboard, and Facebook Insights.
• This is an active severe weather market, so experience in covering severe weather situations is critical. Candidate must be able to communicate in a calm and reassuring manner during very stressful situations.


1. Candidate must be able to work long hours covering breaking news on the air, online, and on our 48 News & Weather Apps, including holidays and weekends.
2. Candidate must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
3. Candidate must be able to both sit for long periods of time when required and stand for long periods of time when required.
4. There will be other duties as assigned from time to time.


A minimum of 5 years anchoring and reporting. A college degree in Journalism or Communications is preferred.
