NHPR is seeking candidates for full-time, paid summer internships to work at our state-of-the-art broadcast facility in Concord, New Hampshire. NHPR is New Hampshires independent and trusted source for news and information, and the states largest radio news service. Based in Concord, the states capital and political hub, NHPR’s newsroom, digital team, and original programs consistently earn national recognition for their in-depth reporting and production. NHPR is an NPR member station and the winner of the 2015, 2017, and 2018 national Edward R. Murrow Award for overall excellence.


News Internship, All Things Considered

The News Intern – All Things Considered works directly with the local host of All Things Considered and NHPR’s Managing Editor to produce All Things Considered, our daily afternoon news program. The intern will generate ideas for stimulating, timely interviews, which will be conducted most often in our Concord studio, but occasionally out in the field.  They will book guests, research and write scripts, edit recorded interviews, and prepare those interviews for publication on The intern will actively participate in our newsrooms daily editorial meetings and learn public radio journalism, ethics, and best practices. 


News Internship - Reporting

The News Intern will be brought into the middle of the news gathering at NHPR.  The intern will take part in our editorial meetings, learn the various types of reporting we do, and learn how to produce a news story. They will learn journalistic ethics and best practices and spend a fair amount of time away from the station reporting stories.   In addition to producing radio they will also work with the Digital department as we present news on our website and on social media. You will work regular hours and need to have a reliable car.  You will need a valid driver’s license and a reliable car.


Production Internship, Creative Production Unit

The intern with the Creative Production Unit has the opportunity to play an integral role on the team that produces several podcasts and broadcast shows. Our shows include Civics 101, a podcast refresher on how our government works; the environmental show Outside/In; and the listener question-based Second Greatest Show on Earth.  The interns tasks and opportunities will be varied and challenging, and will be designed to offer a meaningful experience as a public radio producer. They will work with producers to find good stories; learn how to shape show pitches; learn to pre-interview potential guests; assist with field recordings; and determine how best to tell stories for broadcast. They will also work on our digital platforms to engage with the audience through social media and share stories on our website.


We are looking for candidates with excellent writing skills, a strong interest in news and public policy, the ability to work independently and efficiently, an interest in public media, strong attention to detail, initiative, and curiosity.  All internships start in June and last ten weeks.
