ABC15 in Phoenix, Arizona is looking for a creative Political Multimedia Journalist to research, write, produce, plan, and edit stories across station platforms. The right candidate will be an innovative thinker who can help us grow the ABC15 Political brand into an on-air and digital destination across Arizona.

The role requires a journalist who can enterprise stories in both short and long form, and in many different formats, including using text, video and data visualization.  This role is behind the scenes; off camera. Our Beat Journalists use many different types of technology to quickly distribute stories to digital and on-air platforms, either from the field or within the ABC15 newsroom.

Responsibilities:

  • Enterprises daily stories to develop content that actively engages a cross-platform audience.
  • Gathers and verifies facts through interviews, observation, and research.
  • Organizes material, determines slant or emphasis, and writes stories according to format standards.
  • Shoots video and still photos to illustrate stories.
  • Edits, or assists in editing, videos for all multimedia platforms.
  • Assists with on-air and online production of material.

Requirements:

Education & Experience/Certifications:

  • 2-3 years’ experience in political journalism, with a preferred BA in Journalism
  • Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills.
  • Proficient at posting content to various websites.
  • Computer literacy required, with a preference for newsroom computer systems.
  • Videography and non-linear editing experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment.
  • Edit video on Final Cut Pro editing systems, or similar equipment.
  • Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment.

  • Operates with considerable latitude. Independently performs assignments to results expected. Determines and develops approach to solutions.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves complex problems.
  • Identifies key barriers/core problems and applies problem-solving skills to deal creatively with complex situations.
  • Receives technical guidance only on unusual or complex problems or issues.
  • Advanced knowledge of organizations technologies and practices.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
