The experienced candidate will collect and analyze information of interest including crime, government and breaking news and broadcast gathered information to the public via KTVF (NBC), KXDF (CBS), and station social platforms.


General Responsibilities

• Research, gather, and provide news and information in the most accurate, appealing, timely and creative way using all sources

• Enterprise hard-news, research-driven pieces under tight deadlines

• Develop and maintain sources of information and knowledge about assignments

• Write and produce stories for daily newscasts and website

• Coordinate with producers to ensure story accuracy and determine the best presentation of reports

• Post and regularly update stories and other material on the web, often remotely while traveling

• Make regular beat checks

• Conduct interviews in the field and on-set

• Report “live” on the scene

• Anchor live newscasts, as assigned

• Ability to travel for assignments, as needed

• Must update social media sites daily, including Facebook, to report stories and interact with viewers

• Participate in story selection process through meetings, regularly contribute story ideas

• Represent the station at public events

• Must be able to utilize non-linear editing equipment (additional training is available)

• Present TV stories in alternative and creative ways that emphasize storytelling techniques

• Possess a broad and working knowledge of the viewing area, including people, places, things, and history

• Enterprise, produce, and edit packages

• Demonstrate sound news judgment, collaborate with others to present the story in the best way

• Ability to shoot television video and edit as a one-man band. Must be able to utilize non-linear editing equipment on a daily basis or as needed.

• Communicate with the web staff and other appropriate staff members during breaking news

• Follow clothing and appearance guidelines

• Writes and posts digital stories with text, video and photos, as needed

• Work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

• Performs other incidental and related duties as assigned



• College degree is required. Journalism or related field is preferred

• Must hold a valid driver’s license and a good driving record

• Experience shooting with cameras and non-linear editing

• live reporting skills required, ability to ad-lib during breaking news

• Ability to do active and involved live shots and standups

• Strong on-camera presentation skills required

• Excellent interview and communication skills

• Must be able to write in a clear, concise, and conversational manner

• Strong research skills, including the ability to navigate online search engines

• Strong initiative and attention to detail is required

• Basic computer knowledge including newsroom software, Microsoft applications and Internet use

• Ability to work well with others and independently with limited supervision

• Basic knowledge of newsroom software such as ENPS or Newsking

• Demonstrate solid news judgment and journalistic ethics

• Must possess web writing skills and basic knowledge of web posting software

• Basic knowledge of social media Excellent

• Ability to break-out stories with extensive anchor tags

• Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving in a manner that will work well with co-workers, supervisors, and customers

• Must enterprise hard-news, research-based stories at daily news meetings

• Stay current with national and local news/weather

• Ability to shoot/edit video, ability to work as a “one man band”

• Meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure

• Must have the desire to be at work during big breaking news, weather coverage and special events

• Must be able stand for long periods of time

• Ability to lift and carry 25-50 lbs. for short distances. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to walk, stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk and hear. Regularly required to sit or stand, reach, bend and move about the facility

• Exposure to extreme atmospheric conditions will be encountered. Significant work in all weather conditions is to be expected

• Schedule alterations should be expected as a news employee
