Reporter/producer wanted for KMXT Public Radio.

KMXT Public Radio in Kodiak, Alaska seeks a reporter/producer with radio experience and an unstoppable curiosity for all aspects of community news. The ideal candidate is a good communicator and passionate about storytelling through sound.



As for Kodiak, it’s a beautiful island with temperate weather and many hiking trails close to town. It also boasts a thriving fishing industry and one of the nation’s largest U.S. Coast Guard bases. 



As one of two people in a small newsroom, you’d cover everything from fisheries to culture, and we’d be happy to work with your interests.

KMXT is a great platform to learn, improve, and experiment. The reporter will get a lot of hands-on experience going out into the community to get stories, producing their own sound-rich features and hosting local newscasts.


Skills required:

•Able to meet deadlines, juggle multiple projects at once, and work well under pressure.

•Flexible schedule in the case that news breaks out of the 9 to 5 time frame or if the story calls for it. For example: if a city council meeting is at night, reporters take time off during the day.

•Able to use a field recorder and cut tape using a digital audio workstation like Adobe Audition.
• Familiarity with a range of social media platforms, content management systems.
• At least some broadcast news experience (such as an internship).

•A positive attitude and ability to see the bigger picture.
