Description:

You are the quarterback of the newsroom – fronting our offense with audibles, option plays and collaborative trickery to always push the ball forward. This position is tailor-made for individuals who love to be in the middle of the action and who are great at juggling multiple things. You will be responsible for managing news assignments, coordinating logistics monitoring news wires and scanners, and coordinating assignments with the company’s other Content Managers. Our operation is based on a story-centric workflow. That means we prioritize story treatment across a variety of platforms, from our linear broadcasts to our streaming services, as well as social media and our digital properties.

Responsibilities:

· Supervises the content center, which includes digital producers. · Make calls to news sources as needed, gaining appropriate and actionable information. · Dispatch crews to stories and breaking news, using appropriate logistical and journalistic judgement. · Find stories (through social media and other sources), conduct research and track story ideas with emphasis on key brand points. · Ensures that our content distribution is on target with the research. · Works with digital producers to meet all analytical goals- day to day and long-term. · Works with news managers to plan day-to-day editorial coverage for newsroom. · Keep news managers and producers informed on the progress of new stories. · Helps create strategy and distribution plan for story-centric content on linear, streaming, and all digital platforms (including social). · Will assist with long-term planning for big events, political coverage and station/community initiatives. Publishing online content. · Work with the Marketing Team on promotable story strategy and generating new content ideas · Establish workflow procedures that will create efficiencies and enhance productivity. · Perform other duties as needed and as directed by news management.

Requirements:

· An innovator who can lead a diverse team in a changing media environment, often under the stress of breaking news · Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office · Ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. · Ability to work independently. · Understanding of the principles of responsible journalism along with proven news judgement. · Ability to work well with others in a team-based environment. · Ability to write effectively. · Excellent communicator, make proactive communications a priority · Takes personal responsibility for mistakes, failures, shortcomings · Must be a mentor and effective team leader- willing to give constructive feedback and coaching
