Morning Anchor/Reporter. Reports To: News Director

 

Responsibilities:

The Morning Anchor/Reporter co-anchors a two-hour morning newscast with energy and professionalism. The reporter is responsible for developing, investigating, writing, reporting and editing stories of interest.  Must generate story and source contacts, and enterprise stories on a daily basis. Delivers reports of high visual and ethical standards, using creative ideas and live-news capabilities. Coverage is on-air, live or taped and on-line. Reporters may also be required to shoot and edit his/her own video at times, as assigned.

Experience:
·        2-5 years anchor experience in addition to extensive on-air reporting, writing and producing experience
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
·        Strong news writing, storytelling and research skills

·        Strong leadership skills

·        Commanding and personable anchor presence

·        Ability to write in a clear, concise and conversational manner

·        Must be able to anchor and report “live” as well as ad-lib during breaking news

·        Excellent news judgment

·        Maintain strong journalistic ethics

·        Excellent communication skills

·        Strong attention to details

·        Advance level knowledge of ENPS or other newsroom software

·        Basic knowledge of web posting software

Must be able to utilize non-linear editing equipment; Grass Valley edit experience is preferred (additional training is available)
Present TV stories in alternative and creative ways that emphasize storytelling techniques
Possess a broad and working knowledge of the viewing area, including people, places, things, and history
Enter CG text into newsroom software
Enterprise, produce, and edit packages
·        Ability to navigate and conduct online research using various search engines

·        Ability to stay current with national and local news/ weather

·        Intermediate level knowledge of social media

·        Ability to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure

·        Ability to work independently with little supervision

·        Demonstrated leadership through training and mentoring less experienced staff members

·        Ability to remain positive and foster a positive work environment

 
Education:
·        Bachelor’s degree in journalism or equivalent
Licensing/Certifications:
·        Valid driver’s license with good driving record
Essential Functions:
·        Co-Anchor a Monday-Friday morning newscast in a clear, energetic and informative manner

Must be able to write in a clear, concise, and conversational manner
Ability to do active and involved live shots and stand-ups
Strong on-camera presentation skills required
·        Research and write news stories that are accurate, understandable, and informative

·        Plan and work ahead to ensure that each newscast has new material

·        Conduct interviews in the field and on-set

·        Collaborate with the show’s producers on news content and format

·        Collaborate on the selection and placement news stories and graphics in the newscast

·        Provide story ideas daily

·        Assist the assignment desk with early morning assignments and reporting, as needed

·        Post and update news stories to all digital platforms and social media sites

·        Post extended stories, interviews, raw video and photo galleries to station’s website

·        Interact with viewers through social media

·        Attend and participate in daily editorial meetings

·        Represent the station at public events

·        Substitute anchor on other shifts as needed

·        Perform other job-related duties as assigned

 
Working Conditions:
·        Duties are performed mostly indoors in an office environment. Some field anchoring may also be required.

·        Work includes sitting for prolonged periods.

·        Occasional exposure to extreme atmospheric conditions.

·        Employee should expect occasional outdoor work in all weather conditions.

·        While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, hear, use hands and fingers, reach, grab, balance, handle or feel, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.  Regularly sit, talk, and hear.

·        Work regular 40-hour work week.  Some weekends, evenings, and holidays required.
