Job Summary:

NBC Nebraska-Scottsbluff is accepting applications for a full-time Reporter for our newsroom in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. The video journalist has the unique opportunity to report for as many as six stations in Nebraska as part of the new Nebraska News Network. He or She must be flexible each day with what types of stories he/she will cover, helping with producing when needed, filling in as an anchor when needed, and turning stories for more than one station and newscast. This position involves strong news judgment along with high levels of creativity, communication, language skills and professionalism.

 

Responsibilities:

 Duties include, but are not limited to: turning various angles and building different ways of presenting your story of the day; digging into the information that is given to you and finding what matters most to your viewers; asking hard questions; assisting with other live shots when needed; shoot and report live under tight deadlines on-air and on the web involving breaking news situations. The position is also responsible for knowledge of the community and story idea generation while waiting for the next alarm to sound.

Requirements:

Requirements
Qualifications include: media-related bachelor’s degree or equivalent job experience in journalism, experience in a newsroom turning stories on a daily deadline, experience with a video camera in shooting and editing, and experience reporting in a live capacity. High flexibility is required as this position has odd hours. News judgment, decisiveness, strong ability to handle/meet deadlines, exceptional writing/grammar skills, positive ability to work well with other staff, strong on-air presence, need to be first and accurate with news coverage, working knowledge of new media, and willingness to take direction as a team player are essential. Must maintain a permanent residence within 30 minutes of station and meet physical requirements of the position. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. A valid drivers license is required.
