The Character Generator (CG) Operator is responsible for the creation and superimposition of graphics and images during newscasts and other live and recorded programs.  The CG Operator is responsible for proficient operation, current, continuing and full knowledge of Ross Xpression Character Generator, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator programs. The CG Operator will use creativity and station style and format guidelines for the creation of Maps, Full Screen Graphics, Lower Third Graphics and other graphics as necessary. The CG Operator is also responsible for operation of Studio Cameras and Teleprompter. 

Responsibilities:

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·        Sets up and operates character generator systems for live and taped productions.           

·        Uses creativity to produce graphics requested by news and production personnel.

·        Uses Adobe Photoshop and Abobe Illustrator to create Maps, Full Screen Graphics, Lower Third Graphics and other graphics for the production of Live Newscasts and other live and recorded shows.

·        Operates Studio Camera and Teleprompter when required.

·        Checks equipment and resources for proper working order and requests repairs and maintenance when required.

·        Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Requirements and Skills:

   • Must be able to perform all duties under high stress situations and conditions.

• Must have excellent interpersonal skills.

• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. 

• Previous experience and proficiency with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator preferred.

• Previous experience and proficiency with Ross Xpression Character generator preferred.

• Previous experience and proficiency with Studio Camera and Teleprompter operation preferred.

• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment.

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

The Character Generator Operator must be able to sit, reach, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. The Character Generator Operator must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment or items weighing up to 25 pounds. In addition, the Character Generator Operator must be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls.
